8 connections eh? You’re a leach and ain’t supporting shit. You are just using up bandwidth of other nodes to download blocks.

You don’t run a node to “help the network”. You run a node to help YOURSELF. If you just spin up a node and let it sit there, it does almost nothing to help the network. But if you actually USE your node to verify your incoming and outgoing txns, then you are helping yourself because you are actually making sure your txns obey the rules that you choose (based on the node software you choose to run). By doing so, you indirectly help the network because the network becomes stronger by +1 person who is educated and decentralized and conscious (you). The “network” is PEOPLE, not machines. You no longer trust any third party such as blockexplorer websites to verify if your txn is in the blockchain. Instead you only trust the software on your machine.

How much data does it use? I used to run this back in the day in 2012 and my poor laptop and shitty ADSL couldn’t keep up.

Running anything related to bitcoin on windows is one of the most stultifyingly ill informed things a person could do.

I’m unfamiliar with all of this. What is this and how does it support bitcoin/blockchain? Any explanations or links would be appreciated
